SanDisk's Extreme Pro is the choice of many professionals. The top CompactFlash card offering is the Extreme Pro 160MB/s. It uses UDMA-7 protocol and operates up to 160MB/s read speed and 150MB/s write speed according to SanDisk. It is available in a wide range of sizes: 16, 32, 64, 128 and 256 GB to suit the various capacities necessary for photography and video recording. The 64GB card is tested in this review.
The Extreme Pro 160MB/s 64GB CF card includes a VPG-65 rating. This Video Performance Guarantee means the card can sustain a minimum of 65MB/s continuous recording. This allows 4K and Full HD video without dropped frames or premature stops.
Extreme Pro CompactFlash cards are designed to operate in extreme conditions. The card will work in a wide temperature range from -13°F to 185°F. Internally, a RTV silicone coating protects it from shock and vibration. SanDisk backs the card with a lifetime warranty.
To test its speed capabilities, the Extreme Pro 160MB/s 64GB CF card was subjected to benchmark tests in several USB 3.0 card readers. Its highest read speed bechmark of 158.3 MB/s was reached in the Kingston FCR-HS4 Multi-card Reader. A 147.8 MB/s sequential write speed was measured in the same reader. These speeds are very close to the speed ratings quoted by SanDisk for the card. The write speed is also comparable to the 32GB version previously reviewed.
