SanDisk Extreme Plus 90MB/s SDXC UHS-I U3 64GB Memory Card Review

Introduction

The SanDisk Extreme Plus has been offered is various speeds, and the 90MB/s card is the latest iteration. Although The Extreme Plus 90MB/s shares the same read speed rating as the Extreme 90MB/s, it has a higher quoted write speed at 60MB/s, compared with 40MB/s for the 16, 32 and 64GB Extreme 90MB/s cards. The Extreme Plus is offered in 16, 32 and 64 GB capacities. The 64GB SDXC card (SDSDXSF-064G-ANCIN) is tested in this review.

The Extreme Plus 90MB/s card offers Class 10 UHS-I, UHS Speed Class 3 (U3). It is rated to support 30MB/s continuous write speed for recording HD and 4K video, while the older SD Class 10 specification designates card capable of at least 10MB/s continuous write speed.

Performance

In benchmark tests in USB 3.0 card readers, the Extreme Plus 90MB/s 64GB SDXC card reached 94.5MB/s sequential read speed, outperforming its 90MB/s read speed rating. Its sequential write speed peaked at 72.3MB/s in benchmark tests, well above the 60MB/s rating quoted by SanDisk. The card is an improvement over the previous Extreme Plus 80MB/s 64GB card that only reached 60MB/s 61.2 MB/s sequential write speed.
