Sony 95MB/s U3 64GB SDXC UHS-I Memory Card Review Review

Sony 95 MB/s U3 SDXC 64GB Memory Card

Introduction

Sony offers a variety of Secure Digital cards, and the 95MB/s U3 64GB SDXC card is the fastest UHS-I card offered. The card offers extreme 95MB/s read and 90MB/s write speeds, according to Sony. The U3 label means the card meets requirements for UHS Speed Class 3 by maintaining at least 30MB/s write speed for writing a video stream, which is necessary for 4K video cameras. The card is also ideal for continuous shooting applications in DSLR cameras. The Sony 95MB/s U3 card is offered in both 32 and 64 GB capacities.

This Sony 95MB/s card may be confused with the earlier 94MB/s card, as the two offer a similar read speed. However the 94MB/s card only offers a claimed 60MB/s write speed (in our benchmark tests that card reached 67MB/s sequential write), whereas the newer 95MB/s U3 card claims up to 90MB/s write speed.

Performance

Read and write speed were checked using benchmark software with a variety of USB 3.0 card readers. The Sony 95MB/s card earned is rating, with 95.7 MB/s maximum sequential write speed in the SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-II card reader. The highest write speed benchmark was 89.3 MB/s in the Transcend Multi-Card Reader RDF8.
