Polaroid Extreme Performance UHS-I U3 64GB SDXC Memory Card Review

Introduction

Although Polaroid is an iconic brand, the company is no longer what it used to be. It is now a trademark used under license to produce a variety of cameras and photographic accessories. The Polaroid Extreme Performance UHS-I U3 64GB SDXC card is distributed by C&A Marketing, which also sells products with the Kodak name. The Extreme Performance card is claimed to offer up to 95 MB/s read and 90 MB/s write speed. The UHS Speed Class 3 (U3) means the card can sustain at least 30MB/s continuous write speed for recording 4K video.

Polaroid Extreme Performance memory cards are produced in 16, 32, 64 and 128 GB capacities. The 64GB version (PLDMEPSD64GB) with UPC 840102158960 is tested in this review. The card has a lifetime limited warranty. The package indicates the card is made in Taiwan.

Performance

The performance of the Polaroid Extreme Performance card was tested in USB 3.1 and 3.0 memory card readers. In these benchmark tests, the 64GB card reached up to 98.5 MB/s sequential read speed. This was comfortably above the 95 MB/s rating. Write speed reached up to 88.7 MB/s sequential in the highest benchmark result. This is slightly below the 90 MB/s write speed claim. The write performance varied depending on the card reader, and in some readers it operated closer to 80 MB/s rather than the 90 MB/s write speed advertised.
