ProGrade 200MB/s UHS-II V60 64GB SDXC Card Review

Introduction

ProGrade Digital is a new company, but their founders have decades of experience in the industry. In early 2018 ProGrade introduced their SDXC UHS-II memory card, with 200 MB/s prominently displayed on the label. The quoted read speed is 200 MB/s, while the write speed was rated 80 MB/s maximum and 60 MB/s minimum. The card carries the Video Speed Class 60 (V60) logo, meaning it can sustain at least 60MB/s continuous write speed for video recording.

ProGrade offers the SDXC 200MB/s V60 card in 64, 128 and 256 GB capacities. The 64GB SDXC card (PGSD128GBJNA) with UPC 853229008025 is tested in this review.

Performance

The ProGrade 200MB/s V60 card was evaluated by running benchmark tests in several USB 3.1 and 3.0 card readers. The maximum read speed measured was 166.4 MB/s, which is well short of the 200MB/s advertised. The sequential write speed was better than expected, reaching up to 108.5 MB/s, significantly higher than the 80MB/s maximum write speed claimed by ProGrade.

When the card is used in UHS-I devices its speed is limited in UHS-I mode. It reached 93.2 MB/s read and 89.8 MB/s write speeds in UHS-I card readers.

The SD card register contains information about the card. The register indicates the card was produced in June 2018. The OEM ID is "SM" and Manufacturer ID 0x00001b which indicate that Samsung is the supplier for this card, or at least manufactured the controller. Externally, the card is marked made in Korea.
