ProGrade 250MB/s UHS-II V90 64GB SDXC Card Review

Introduction

ProGrade Digital was founded in early 2018 by former Lexar executives to deliver high quality memory cards and workflow devices. They formed the company after Micron, Inc. sold the Lexar brand. ProGrade is targeting upmarket consumers and professionals who need reliable, high-performance storage for digital SLR and mirror photography and video recording.

Their initial ProGrade offering includes UHS-II Secure Digital and Cfast memory cards. ProGrade UHS-II SD cards are available in two varieties: 200MB/s and 250MB/s. This review will focus on the high-performance 250MB/s card with Video Speed Class 90 (V90) rating. The V90 rating provides enough speed for high quality video recording up to 90MB/s continuously. There are three capacities available: 64, 128 and 256 GB. The 64GB SDXC card (PGSD128GBCJBH) with UPC 853229008339 is tested in this review.

Performance

The ProGrade 250MB/s V90 card was tested in several USB 3.1 and 3.0 card readers. The highest sequential read benchmark was 299.3 MB/s, which is comfortably above the 250MB/s read speed claimed by ProGrade. The sequential write speed reached 254.3 MB/s, also above the 200MB/s maximum write speed rating. When tested in UHS-I card readers the highest benchmarks were 95.0 MB/s read and 93.3 MB/s write.

The internal card register shows that this card was produced in June 2018. The OEM ID is "BE" and Manufacturer ID 0x000028 are the same as found on Lexar cards, meaning ProGrade most likely sources their cards from Micron manufacturing facilities. The card is also produced in Korea, as were many Lexar cards.

ProGrade Digital Secure Digital cards are covered by a 3-year warranty. Their business model is direct to consumer with products being sold online only. The cards can be purchased from Amazon and B&H Photo.
