SanDisk Extreme Plus 95/90 MB/s 64GB microSDXC UHS-I U3 Review

Introduction

The SanDisk Extreme Plus 95/90 MB/s microSDXC card provides 95MB/s read speed and 90MB/s write speed, according to SanDisk. The card was released in late 2015 and is an update to the Extreme Plus 80MB/s microSD card that offered 80MB/s read and 60MB/s write speeds. Both cards appear the same externally. The Extreme Plus is UHS-I compatible and is rated UHS Speed Class 3 (U3) to provide at least 30MB/s write speed for continuous 4K video recording. Extreme Plus microSD cards are available in 16, 32 and 64 GB capacities. The 64GB microSDXC version is tested in this review.

Performance

The performance of the Extreme Plus 95/90MB/s 64GB card was measured using USB 3.0 external card readers. In benchmark tests, the card provided up to 99.6 MB/s sequential read and 92.2 MB/s sequential write speeds. Tests were performed using the card in microSD card slots when available, or in the included microSD to SD adapter in readers with a full-size SD slot. Performance is virtually identical using either method.
