SanDisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s UHS-I U3 128GB SDXC Card Review

Introduction

SanDisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s cards are the fastest UHS-I SD card offered by SanDisk. Their performance is rated at 95MB/s read and 90MB/s write speed and features the UHS Speed Class 3 (U3) rating. The U3 guarantees at least 30MB/s continuous write speed for 4K video recording. Older cards may be labeled U1 but offer essentially the same speed (the label label was updated after the new speed class was defined by the SD Association).

The Extreme Pro 95MB/s card is offered in several sizes: 16, 32, 64, 128, 256 and 512 GB. This review is for the 128GB capacity SDXC version. The Extreme Pro 32 GB SDHC and Extreme Pro 64 GB SDXC were tested previously.

Performance

Read and write speed for this 128GB Extreme Pro 95MB/s UHS-I card was measured using benchmark tests in several USB 3.0 SD card readers. The card surpassed its speed ratings in several card readers, reaching 99.6MB/s sequential read and 92.2MB/s sequential write speeds. These benchmarks are practically the highest of any UHS-I card tested.

The Extreme Pro's exemplary performance continued in camera testing. In the Canon 5Ds write speed test, the 128GB Extreme Pro UHS-I card averaged 71.4 MB/s write speed during continuous shooting. It was among the fastest SD cards tested in that camera, where five of the top seven cards were different versions of Extreme Pro 95MB/s UHS-I cards.
