SanDisk Ultra 80MB/s microSDXC 64GB Memory Card Review

Introduction

SanDisk Ultra microSD cards are a best-selling choice that balance cost and performance. The Ultra 80MB/s UHS-I is the latest version of the card. The read speed has been increased to 80MB/s from the 40MB/s of the previous card. The write speed, although not directly stated, retains the same Class 10 rating, meaning the card can sustain at least 10MB/s continuous recording. Ultra microSD cards are available in 8, 16, 32, 64, 128GB, 200GB and 256GB capacities. The 200 and 256GB cards have a 90MB/s read speed rating. The 64GB microSDXC version is reviewed here.

Performance

Benchmark tests were run with the Ultra 80MB/s 64GB microSDXC card was in several SD and microSD card readers. Although the card was rated 80MB/s read speed, it easily surpassed that and reached up to 99.5MB/s sequential read speed. The sequential write speed measured just above 20MB/s and reached up to 21.4MB/s in the highest benchmark result. The card easily passes the 10MB/s write speed implied by the Class 10 rating.

The SanDisk 80MB/s microSDXC 64GB card will be included in upcoming camera tests. Given the benchmark results, the card will be good enough for basic photography but the relatively low write speed will hinder continuous shooting. After a camera has reached its buffer capacity the card's write speed will limit continuous shooting. Camera test results will be included below when available.
