Sony M Series 128GB SDXC UHS-II U3 Memory Card Review Review

Introduction

Sony M Series UHS-II cards offer high read speeds at a lower price point compared with the G Series UHS-II memory cards. The M Series SD cards are rated 260MB/s read and 100MB/s write speeds. While the write speed is in line with UHS-I cards, this is a UHS-II card and reaches nearly three times the download speed of any UHS-I card. The card is backwards compatible and operates in UHS-I mode in devices that do not support UHS-II. Its speed will be limited depending on the device.

The M Series 128GB SDXC card carries the UHS Speed Class 3 (U3) designation on its label. It is rated to sustain 30MB/s write speed for recording HD and 4K video. The card is also well suited to mirrorless and DSLR cameras where extended continuous shooting is required. Sony M Series SD cards are available in 32, 64 and 128 GB sizes. Performance

The 128GB read and write performance was evaluated in various memory card readers. The 128GB M Series card exceeded is 260MB/s read speed rating, posting a 295.3 MB/s sequential read benchmark. The sequential write speed reached up to 100.5 MB/s, which is slightly below the 100MB/s write speed rating.

Real world performanced was tested in cameras. In extended continuous shooting the Sony M Series SD card reached above 90MB/s in the fastest UHS-II camera. In UHS-I cameras it maintained around 80MB/s write speed average at best. Additional camera results will be added below as the card is tested in more cameras.
