Sony Professional Ultra-High Durability 95MB/s U3 64GB SDXC UHS-I Memory Card SF64-P Review Review

Introduction

Sony Professional Ultra-High Durability Secure Digital cards offer increased strength and resilience. The 64GB Professional card (SF-64P) tested here is touted to offer 10X the strength of consumer SD cards. The Professional card offers 95MB/s read and 90MB/s write speeds.

The card can be submerged for 72 hours at 3.9-foot depth, can be dropped from 16.4 feet, is bend-proof to 100 N rating and twist-proof to 1 N-m, and dust proof with IPX6 rating.

Professional speeds come with a U3 rating on the label. This means the card meets UHS Speed Class 3 that requires the card can sustain at least 30MB/s continuous write speed for recording 4K and HD video. The card is also suitable for continuous shooting applications in DSLR and mirrorless cameras with a maximum 90MB/s write speed. The Sony Professional 95MB/s cards are available in 32, 64 and 128 GB capacities. The 64GB version (SF-64P) with UPC 027242900424 is tested in this review.

Performance

To evaluate the performance of the Professional 64GB card, several USB 3.1 and 3.0 card readers were used. The 95MB/s read speed was easily achieved, reaching a maximum 98.5 MB/s sequential read speed. The write speed was a disappointment. In benchmark tests the card could only reach 86.9 MB/s maximum, well above Sony's 90 MB/s write speed claim. The non-professional Sony 95MB/s SF-64UZ card was much faster at write speed, reaching 89MB/s in benchmarks.
