Transcend 700S UHS-II V90 64GB SDXC Card Review

Introduction

Transcend 700S memory cards provide performance and up to 285MB/s read and 180MB/s write. While the speed ratings are the same as the previous Ultimate UHS-II U3 SD card (TS64GSD2U3), the 700S card adds the V90 video speed rating, making it ideal for ultra high definition video recording as well as demanding continuous shooting photography. The 700S is offered in 32 and 64 GB capacities. The 64 GB SDXC version with SKU TS64GSDC700S and UPC 0760557841913 is tested for this review.

Internally the 700S features MLC NAND flash. The card can withstand water up to one meter deep (JIS IPX7). The advertised speeds are available only when used in a UHS-II capable device. When used in a UHS-I or slower device the card will revert to lower speed. In UHS-I mode the card supports SDR104 at up to 104MB/s bus speed.

The Transcend 700S UHS-II V90 card has a black label with gold lettering. The card is made in Taiwan and is backed by a 5 year warranty from Transcend.

Performance

The Transcend 700S UHS-II V90 was benchmarked using several card readers. In testing the 64GB card reached up to 300.4 MB/s sequential read speed, well above its claimed 285MB/s read speed. Write speed benchmarks measured up to 201.2 MB/s sequential. These speeds are only reached in devices that support UHS-II. When this card is used in UHS-I devices, the benchmarks were 93.0MB/s read and 91.6MB/s write speed.

This 700S card provides high write speeds in cameras. In the Canon EOS R it averaged 159.0 MB/s write speed during continuous shooting. Additional in-camera write speeds will be shown in the following table.
