Patriot EP Pro 128GB UHS-I Memory Card Review

Introduction

The Patriot EP Pro 128GB SDXC card offers a large size and high degree of performance. This UHS-I memory card is rated at up to 90MB/s read and 50MB/s write speed according to Patriot. The EP Pro is offered in 32, 64 and 128GB capacities. The 128GB capacity SDXC card (PEF128GSXC10333) is tested in this review. The 32GB and 64GB capacity cards were tested previously. EP Pro memory cards are covered by Patriot's 5-year limited warranty.

Performance

After testing in several USB 3.0 card readers, the highest benchmark reached 96.6 MB/s sequential read speed. This is comfortably above the 90MB/s quoted by Patriot. Write speed reached only 42.7 MB/s, rather than the 50MB/s as advertised. Comparing other sizes of the card, 64GB capacity version measured similarly at 42.3 MB/s write speed, while tests of the 32GB capacity EP Pro card reached 48.1 MB/s. As the flagship of Patriot's memory card line the EP Pro leaves a lot to be desired in terms of write performance.
