Phison PS8036 SD Card Controller

Today Phison Electronics Corporation announces the world's fastest UHS-II SD card controller enabling transfer speeds up to 325MB/s. The Phison PS8036 controller supports the latest SD version 4.2 specification for SDHC and SDXC card applications.

Although Phison does not market SD cards directly, their controllers are incorporated into SD cards by other manufacturers. In addition Phison acts as OEM producing SD cards for retail brands.

The controller supports 1x/1y/1z nm MLC and TLC NAND flash memory. When used with Ultra MLC memory, it reaches sequential read speed up to 285 MB/s and write speed of 250 MB/s. A special MaxTurbo Mode speed provides up to 325 MB/s read and 280 MB/s write speed.

The PS8036 controller is fabricated in 55nm CMOS process. It uses a hardware enhanced 72-bit error correction code (ECC) engine. Features include static and dynamic wear leveling routines and a power saving feature. The firmware is upgradable via programmable RAM.

The controller provides UHS Speed Class 3 (U3) performance for ultra high definition video (4K) and maximum throughput for continuous shooting photographic applications. It also offers content protection (CPRM) as well as a fully customizable CID Register.

Phison designs and manufactures flash storage solutions for commercial and industrial applications. The company was founded in 2000 in Hsinchu, Taiwan. Today its NAND controllers can be found in applications including USB, SD, eMMC, PATA, SATA and PCIe interfaces. Phison also provides complete OEM services.
